Carmarthenshire Business Awards

The Business Community of Carmarthenshire is once again gearing itself up for the Carmarthenshire Business Awards.

The Awards, organised by Antur Teifi, the west Wales Enterprise Agency and Carmarthenshire County Council, are held annually at the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli, and are a celebration of local businesses and their achievements. This year's event is already scheduled for 19th March 2008, a date for your diary, and will be hosted by popular broadcaster Jason Mohammad. Tickets are £40 each or £400 for a table of ten. Carmarthenshire County Council are again the main sponsors of the event and Cllr Clive Scourfield who is the Executive Board Member for Regeneration and Leisure said, "It is important for us as a local authority to support local businesses and acknowledge the work they do within the County".

Last March over 300 attendees from the business community in the county enjoyed a formal dinner, followed by guest speaker Mai Davies announcing the winners of these prestigious awards in a glittering ceremony.

Dewi Williams Managing Director of Antur Teifi said, "The Carmarthenshire Business Awards are an important celebration of the skills, resources and innovation demonstrated by Businesses in the county. Carmarthenshire has a wealth of high quality businesses providing employment for the region and it is vital to have businesses that can provide employment and career opportunities for the young people of the county. The standard of nominees has been high, demonstrating the quality and diversity of the local economic base. Congratulations to Schaeffler UK Limited for winning the Carmarthenshire Business of the year Award 2007."

A HELPING HAND FOR THE WELSH LANGUAGE COMMUNITY NEWSPAPERS

Welsh language community newspaper handbook

Have you ever considered the magnitude of expertise and work volunteers provide in order to produce the "papur bro", Welsh language community newspaper on a monthly basis? For the first time ever this knowledge and some other useful guidelines have been placed between two covers in a handbook, thanks to the Papurau Bro Network Project, Antur Teifi. The handbook provides information on every aspect of working on a community newspaper, developing ideas and column filling tips, plus fundraising ideas.

The information was collected by the officers of the Project Network following several series of regional meetings between the papers' volunteers. In addition information, best practices and ideas were posted on a dedicated website forum for the papers. Each paper has received copes of the handbook which may be a helping hand or solve a problem for new and exciting volunteers.

With facebook, bebo, myspace and other social website a common feature of our lives, Welsh language community newspapers have taken opportunities to network in their own right by connecting with other papers through a dedicated website. For example some progressive newspapers have began publishing in colour, or have placed a bar-code on the cover to expedite sales and by sharing experiences others have been encouraged to make their own developments. Because of the unique nature of every paper, everyone has something to bring to the discussions and the opportunities have arisen to listen to a difference perspective; this is all reflected within the material held within the new handbook.

"The Network Project has been an aid worth having for the Glannau,.." Gruff Roberts noted, Secretary of North West coast paper. "..and for every other Papur Bro. The regional meetings have united papers and lead to a better understanding of each other's work and problems, sharing of ideas and information. Thank you to everyone who had the vision for the Network Project."
